Click Tracker Uncertified in Google Ads: Why It Happens and How to Fix It
A "click tracker uncertified" problem means your tracking template uses a click tracking service that Google has not certified, which Google labels Click tracker - Unsupported. Fix it by switching to a certified tracker or removing the tracker and using a landing page pixel, then get your ads reviewed again.
Why does Google disapprove uncertified click trackers?
Google only allows click trackers it has certified in the tracking template. Certified trackers must redirect transparently, so Google can see where each click goes. Google's policy says that ads using non-certified click trackers in the tracking template "may be disapproved".
Read the rule in Google's restricted ad formats and features policy and guidelines for third-party click tracking services.
How do I fix a click tracker uncertified disapproval?
Find the tracker
Open the disapproved ad and check its tracking template at ad, ad group, campaign and account level. Note the domain of every tracker, including any nested inside the URL.
Check Google's certified list
Look up each domain in the list of certified Google click trackers. Any domain that isn't covered has to go.
Choose your fix
Switch to a certified tracker, or remove the tracker and use a landing page tracking pixel instead. You can also ask your provider to apply for certification.
Update and test the template
Save the new tracking template and use Test in Google Ads. The test should reach your final URL.
Get the ads reviewed
Ads are re-reviewed after you save template changes. If the ad remains disapproved, submit it for review through Policy manager.
What other click tracker disapprovals can Google show?
Google lists five click tracker disapprovals. Each has a different cause, so check the exact label on your ad.
| Disapproval | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Click tracker - Unsupported | The tracking service isn't certified by Google. | Use a certified tracker or a landing page pixel, or ask your provider to apply. |
| Click tracker - Destination mismatch | The tracker's destination doesn't match your final URL, or the redirect passes through an uncertified tracker. | Point the final URL and tracking template at the same destination. Make sure every nested tracker is certified. |
| Click tracker - Incorrect path | The tracker URL uses a path that records the wrong event, such as impressions instead of clicks. | Ask your provider which paths Google has certified as transparent. |
| Click tracker - Specific parameter needed | A required parameter is missing, or one is there that shouldn't be. | Check your tracker's documentation and correct the URL. |
| Click tracker - Unparseable tracking template | Special characters or an unsupported destination stop Google reading the URL. | Remove special characters. Use a webpage as the destination, not an IP address or deep link. |

How does a certified click tracker avoid this?
A certified tracker shows the next step of the redirect in a visible parameter and always follows it. MRN Click Tracker uses redirection_url for this, and sends each click directly to that URL in one 302 redirect:

Click Tracker Uncertified FAQs
Quick answers about uncertified click tracker disapprovals.
Is "click tracker uncertified" the same as "Click tracker - Unsupported"?
Yes, in practice. Google's policy page names the disapproval "Click tracker - Unsupported" and explains that the ad uses a click tracking service Google hasn't certified. Advertisers often search for it as "click tracker uncertified".
Do I need to appeal after fixing an uncertified click tracker?
Ads are re-reviewed after you save tracking template changes. If you changed the template at account, campaign or ad group level, or the ad stays disapproved, submit it for review through Policy manager.
Can my tracker provider get certified?
Yes. Providers apply to Google themselves. Google accepts applications once a year, from 1 September to 30 November, so a provider that misses the window has to wait for the next one.
Does Google allow click trackers inside other click trackers?
Yes, but every click tracker between the tracking template and the final URL must be certified. One uncertified tracker in the chain can cause a disapproval.
